As a selkie, I really love exploring amazing and magical places all over the world. Here are a few places that my selkie friends and I love to visit.
1. Orkney, Scotland:
In the Orkney Islands, off the rugged coast of Scotland, I find a piece of my heart. The raw, windswept landscapes whisper the ancient tales of my people, resonating deeply with my soul. Especially at the Bay of Skaill, where the gentle waves seem to understand the secret life of Selkies. The locals, warm and welcoming, share stories of our kind over steaming cups of tea, keeping our legends alive in their hearts. For me, Orkney is not just a place; it's where the essence of my selkie spirit feels most at home, embraced by a community that honors our mystical heritage.
2. Donegal, Ireland:
Every time I visit Donegal, Ireland, I'm fascinated by its wild beauty and the mystical embrace of the Atlantic. I also love stopping in Glendowen Craft Shop and Studio, a delightful small shop nestled in the heart of Inishowen. This shop is a treasure trove of local crafts and traditional Donegal Tweed garments, each piece echoing the spirit of the Irish coast. It's not just a shopping experience; it's a journey into the rich tapestry of Donegal's artisan culture.
3. Faroe Islands:
The allure of the Faroe Islands, located between Norway and Iceland, never fails to captivate me. This archipelago of 18 volcanic islands is shrouded in mist, creating an atmosphere of enchantment. The hidden beaches here are particularly dear to us selkies, offering secluded spots ideal for our transformations. The beach at Saksun, surrounded by majestic mountains, is a place of profound enchantment. Each visit feels like stepping into a living tale, where the mist and the rhythm of the ocean waves speak directly to my Selkie soul. In this magical setting, where reality intertwines with legend, I find a unique sense of peace and freedom. Additionally, my visits are never complete without a meal at Áarstova, a favorite restaurant of mine. Nestled in the heart of the islands, Áarstova offers a cozy and charming atmosphere, where the taste of traditional Faroese cuisine deepens the connection to this mystical land.
4. Iceland:
Everytime I journey to Iceland my heart is especially drawn to its extraordinary black sand beaches. Reynisfjara, a stunning stretch of beach near the quaint village of Vík, holds a special place in my soul. Surrounded by basalt columns and the roaring Atlantic waves, this beach epitomizes the raw, mystical charm of Iceland. Its dramatic black sands, set against towering cliffs and the powerful sea, create an otherworldly landscape that captivates me time and again. The sense of serenity and awe I experience at Reynisfjara, with its unique natural artistry, is a reminder of the sheer wonder our planet holds. Iceland, with its blend of fire, ice, and now this enchanting black sand beach, continues to be a destination that fuels my wanderlust and beckons me back.
5. Newfoundland, Canada:
Each visit to Newfoundland, Canada, rekindles my love for this rugged, enchanting land. There's a raw, untamed beauty here that speaks to my soul, especially at Fogo Island Inn. I love the striking contemporary architecture that somehow harmonizes seamlessly with the ancient, weather-beaten landscape. I enjoy sitting in my cozy room looking out at the vast sea and digging in to some amazing food. Some days I hike along the rugged coastline and watch the sunset paint the sky.
